We're thrilled to showcase the work of one of our Artists-in-Residence, Julia Csekö, in Social Fabric. Through textiles, flags, and artwork installations, Csekö explores themes of democracy, belonging, identity, and collective responsibility. Centered around her monumental work DEMOCRACY IS A VERB AND SO IS LOVE, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on civic engagement as an ongoing act of care and shared humanity.

Julia Csekö is a Brazilian American interdisciplinary artist, organizer, and educator based in Somerville, MA, whose practice spans public art, monumental text paintings, wearables, and video performance. Born in the United States to Brazilian parents, she received her BFA at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and MFA at Tufts University/SMFA. Her work centers on themes of memory, belonging, and social justice. A 2026 NAS Creative Community Fellow, Our Energy Future Grantee, and Resident Artist at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, Csekö's practice is centered on community-engaged installations that invite collective dialogue and creative problem-solving.
