Introduction to Experimental Printmaking: Collagraph and Monotype

Work with experienced printmaker Boriana Kantcheva to learn different ways to create collagraph plates and combine them with monotype. In this 4-week class students will focus on exploring a variety of techniques without the harsh chemicals usually associated with some of the intaglio techniques. Students will be introduced to making collagraph plates. We will use materials such as cardboard, paper, fabric and other materials that are easily accessible and non-toxic. Students will learn how to add monotype layers to introduce color to their prints. This class is great for complete beginners as well as students who may have some prior experience.
*Most materials such as inks, rollers, Plexiglass plates, newsprint, and cleaning materials will be provided. Students will be responsible for getting their own printmaking paper.Before to the beginning of the class students will be sent options for different printmaking papers that can be purchased in a local art store or online.Class includes additional time, right after class. Students can stay and work after class on their own until 3:00 PM.
