Dinah Lane Theater
Black Box Jazz | The Music of Coldplay with the Daniel Ian Smith Sextet

Saxophonist Daniel Ian Smith and his ensemble bring new and unique jazz interpretations to the music of Coldplay. Featuring arrangements and adaptations by Matthew Nicholl and Adi Yeshaya.

About the Project

"The Coldplay Project was initiated for a performance I gave in Tel Aviv, Israel, as part of the annual Tel Aviv Jazz Festival. Each year the festival has a 'theme' for the festival itself, and in 2022 the theme was “Rock Bands!” In collaboration with the wonderful writers/arrangers Matthew Nicholl (Berklee College of Music) and Adi Yeshaya (writer for Prince, The Voice, Whitney Houston, and others), we chose a collection of songs by the rock band Coldplay and adapted them for a sextet featuring guitar, electric bass, keyboards, drum set, percussion, and me playing saxophones and alto flute. The result was really successful and incredibly well received. I’m looking forward to bringing this project to the Mosesian and hope to build on this idea with a recording in the works for year end 2024!"
