Character Creation in Improvisation- a 6-week workshop
Instructor: Kristina Smarz
Compelling characters make for memorable (and infinitely playable) scenes. In this six-week workshop, you’ll explore how to create dynamic and authentic characters on the fly and leave with at least one, fully realized character in your toolkit.
Using physicality, voice, emotion, point-of-view and breathwork, you’ll experiment with building characters from both the outside in and the inside out and discover how using characters in your improvisation can lead to fun, grounded and captivating scenes.
Whether you’re a seasoned improv veteran looking to expand your performance range and scene work, or newer performers looking to step into someone else’s shoes, this workshop will create a welcoming environment for performers of all levels. As this workshop will combine exercises, games and structures from both theater and improv, all that is required of participants is an open mind and willingness to learn.
