Visual Narratives - Watertown Residents

Mosesian Center for the Arts is excited to offer a class for adults 55 and over. Creating visual art in combination with writing is a wonderful way to share personal stories and experiences. Have you always wanted to put some of these stories in writing? Or have you wondered how to paint your favorite landscape or seascape? With the guidance of an experienced art educator, students will be able to create images that best illustrate these stories or evoke the feelings associated with them. Participants will use easily accessible materials like watercolors, acrylic paint, pencils, glue, and scissors. Students will be shown different ways to use photographs as references and combine them with the writing. No prior art or writing experience is required! The writing and art prompts will be explained, and the teacher will work with each participant to help them achieve their goals. There will be demonstrations on techniques such as collage, watercolor painting, drawing, and some mixed media applications. Participants will work in a sturdy, hardbound sketchbook so at the end of the class each person will have a book filled with writing and images that tell their stories. At the end of the class, Mosesian Arts will host a reception and a viewing of the work. Participants may choose to share a story or images done in the class. It may be a story circle, simple and comfortable for all who choose to share their work.

Watertown residents are eligible for a discounted tuition cost of $25 ($125 for non-Watertown residents).

Materials will be provided for all participants. If someone chooses to participate in the class remotely, a material kit can be delivered to the person and a list of prompts and instructions can also be provided.

Materials will include watercolors, some basic acrylic paint colors, gel pens, markers, scissors, glue sticks, brushes, pencils, and a hardbound sketchbook.

The final class on February 14 will be dedicated to sharing students’ work and a small reception with light refreshments, time to be determined.

Registration Fee will be waived for EBT card holders, please contact Registration at registration@mosesianarts.org to register.

This class is made possible by Marshall Home Fund and The Aging Creatively Initiative at Mosesian Arts.
